Born in the small farming community of Grabtown, North Carolina. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in Mogambo( 1953). She was also listed as one of the American Film Institute's greatest stars of all time. She was married to Mickey Rooney,  Artie Shaw and Frank Sinatra.
